As a member of CAPBT sue follows a consistent approach which is called EMRA.

This is a holistic approach focusing on your pets emotions. EMRA stands for Emotional, Mood State and Reinforcement Analysis which put simply:

  • analyses how your pet feels on a day to day basis - are they fully content with life?
  • determines how your pet feels when the problematic situation arises and
  • looks at why your pet is continuing to perform the problematic behaviour

Sue will then work with to you to devise an individual behaviour modification program. This may involve several subsequent sessions, especially with aggression problems. CAPBT members work in close co-operation with your veterinary practice and keep them informed of progress and developments throughout.

The use of the sound behaviour modification techniques and with years of hands-on experience many problems are resolved, some of which are listed below

  • Inappropriate toileting and house-training problems
  • Constant barking or whining
  • Jumping up on visitors / strangers
  • Chasing joggers, cyclists or cars
  • Chasing livestock and other animals
  • Stealing food or other items
  • Aggression towards other dogs or people
  • Fears, phobias and anxieties
  • Obsessive behaviours
  • Anxiety / destructive behaviour when left alone

In order to arrange an initial consultation give Sue a call. The problem can be discussed over the phone to ensure that she can help. This will also give you the chance to ask any questions you may have and to find out more about her. A veterinary check will then be asked for in order to eliminate any health issues that may be affecting your dog’s behaviour. Your vet will then refer you back to Sue for the behavioural consultation.

In certain cases, it may be beneficial to arrange follow-up visits. The behaviour problem could potentially be complex and modification may need to be implemented for an extended period. In addition Sue is able to provide extensive telephone support at various stages to help you through the programme. Persistence with the programme will be rewarded with the appropriate behaviour changes.

Training

Sue does not offer large class training, preferring to concentrate on an individual training program designed especially for you and your dog. This method enables us to work in an everyday environment and to solve problem aspects of training.

Specialised socialisation and rehabilitation workshops are available throughout the year, please contact us for details.
